Read all of Psalms 105 and 106 to get a summary of Gods dealings with the people of Israel.

The Law did not work.  What was it's purpose

Purpose for choosing a nation of people

Psalms 78:5-8  For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:  {6} That the generation to come might know <them>, <even> the children <which> should be born; <who> should arise and declare <them> to their children: {7} That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

Psalms 106:8  Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known.

Joshua chapters 2 and 5

Joshua 4:24-5:1  That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it <is> mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.  {5:1} And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites,  which <were> on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which <were> by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.

Nehemiah 9:32-33  Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who keepest covenant and mercy, let not all the trouble seem little before thee, that hath come upon us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all thy people, since the time of the kings of Assyria unto this day. {33} Howbeit thou <art> just in all that is brought upon us; for thou hast done right, but we have done wickedly:

Deuteronomy 9:7 Remember, <and> forget not, how thou provokedst the LORD thy God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have been rebellious against the LORD.

Deuteronomy 9:4  God did not allow the Israelites to destroy the other nation of people because the Isralites were his favorites.  He had the other nations destroyed because they deserved judgment because they were wicked.

Deuteronomy 9:4 Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land:  but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee.

Joshua 2:9-11 And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. {10} For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that <were> on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. {11} And as soon as we had heard <these things>, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he <is> God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.

Joshua 4:22-23 Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land. {23} For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:

Judges 11:16 But when Israel came up from Egypt, and walked through the wilderness unto the Red sea, and came to Kadesh;

1 Samuel 10:18 And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, <and> of them that oppressed you:

The children of Israiel asked for a king and after God explained how bad a king would be and when the people refused to listen he gave them Saul  (which means asked).

Saul was the first king of Israel. After Saul did all the things God said he would do God replaced saul with Da-vid (which means beloved).  David was the second king of Israel.  David had a son named Solomon.

Wisdom

Solomon = (peace) Was the  third king of Israel

Jeroboam His son caused  Israel to split into 2 nations

Je-rob-o'-am  (enlarger) was in charge of 2 southern tribes.

Re-ho-bo'-am  (freer of the people) Was king of the 10 northern tribes called Israel.

God Had required the Israelites to make offerings only at the temple.  Because of his fear of loosing control of the people Rehoboam changed Gods rules and cause the northern tribes to sin. Man has been changing the rules ever since to avoid loosing control to God. Read Romans chapter 1.

God promised that a remnant would return Isaiah 10:21

Ezekiel 20:41-44 I will accept you with your sweet savour, when I bring you out from the people, and gather you out of the countries wherein ye have been scattered; and I will be sanctified in you before the heathen. {42} And ye shall know that I <am> the LORD, when I shall bring you into the land of Israel, into the country <for> the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to your fathers.  {43} And there shall ye remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein ye have been defiled; and ye shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that ye have committed.  {44} And ye shall know that I <am> the LORD, when I have wrought with you for my name's sake, not according to your wicked ways, nor according to your corrupt doings, O ye house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.
